1999 $5 Premium Federal Reserve Set - Fancy # 00000676A

1999 $5 Premium Federal Reserve Set - Fancy # 00000676A

Price: $675

A most infamous offering, this 12-note matching DIstrict Set includes the notorious Atlanta note in which the seal is missing the last ‘S’ in United States (oops!). Please see it with your own eyes via the scans below.

Also, the BEP ‘inadvertently’ released sets numbered from 2-300 in spite of policies that normally prevent such an occurrence. As a rule, the BEP does not release notes with the ‘A’ suffix below serial number 301.

This set, with the catchy serial #00000676, is among the lower numbered of those traditionally authorized. The total number of $5 Premium Sets issued was approximately 2200.

An interesting aside is that all low-numbered Premium Sets, including the 1999 $5 Sets, only include notes with the ‘A’ suffix. These notes are considered by the BEP to be the first and lowest notes issued and are in effect the first to come off the presses.

Like all Premium Sets, these sets saw limited, but broad distribution. (There are no extensive dealer distribution networks in currency as exist for example in coin collecting.) As such, most of these sets long ago found a safe and quiet home with no plans to leave that comfort for the frenzy of the marketplace.

A great set, difficult to find, and with a checkered past, it’s yours at a most reasonable price… particularly as Premium Sets remain, for the most part, a well-kept secret.
